LOCKPORT – A Town of Tonawanda man, arrested when his auto car rear-ended another on the bridge exiting Tonawanda Island after the July 4 fireworks, pleaded guilty in Niagara County Court Wednesday to a felony count of driving while intoxicated.

County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas warned Matthew M. Halas, 39, of Raintree Island, that he needs to enter a treatment program with several meetings a week “if you hope to escape a prison sentence. … Right now, I’m not impressed.” She scheduled sentencing for Feb. 1.

Deputy District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner said the occupants of the other car suffered “very minor injuries” and agreed with the plea offer.
