The University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences appointed Liesl Folks dean. Folks most recently was with HGST, a hard disk drive company in San Jose, Calif. She served as an adviser to Cornell University’s Center for Nanoscale Systems and collaborated with scientists at Oxford University, UC Santa Barbara, Ohio State, University of Colorado and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Folks earned a bachelor of science degree and a doctor of philosophy from the University of Western Australia in Perth and earned an MBA at Cornell University.
National Property Management Associates, a real estate investment company headquartered in Orchard Park, promoted Thomas Fennell to chief operating officer and appointed William Schaffstall chief financial officer. Fennell, a senior vice president of operations at the firm for more than nine years, is a Canisius College graduate. Schaffstall was controller at ESL Federal Credit Union in Rochester and is a Canisius College graduate.
The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County appointed Lynn Pullano program director, education. Pullano holds a master’s degree from UB and a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College. She most recently served as assessment and marketing coordinator of career services at UB.
Great Lakes Orthodontics promoted David J. Lavin to vice president of operations. With the company since 2012, Lavin was a consultant to Great Lakes as the managing director and co-founder of Performance Management Associates. He is a graduate of Canisius and Hilbert colleges. Great Lakes Orthodontics is an employee-owned company, serving orthodontists, prosthodontists, oral surgeons, and the restorative and general dental profession worldwide.
Valient Market Research named Emily Eberhardt vice president, business development. Eberhardt will focus on coordinating the company’s regional sales, marketing and business development efforts from its Buffalo-Niagara Regional Office in Williamsville. She is a Canisius College graduate.
St. Bonaventure University appointed Justin Johnston associate director for the Bonaventure Fund. Johnston served as the assistant director for the advancement staff at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and as a career development counselor at Canisius College. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Daemen College and a master’s degree from Canisius College.
Chiampou Travis Besaw and Kershner, an Amherst accounting firm, appointed Valerie Kaufman senior staff accountant. Kaufman, a CPA, is a graduate of Valparaiso University.
The Principal Financial Group named Brennen Przybysz a financial representative and investment adviser in its Amherst office. Przybysz was a financial adviser at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He is a Geneseo State College graduate with an MBA from Medaille College.

Lowe is a University at Buffalo graduate and received her J.D. from the UB School of Law. Monaco, a Binghamton University graduate, received his J.D., from the UB School of Law.
