BATAVIA – The Batavia Rotary Club, renowned for its sold-out annual musicals on the high school stage, is gearing up for what may be the final curtain.
Begun in 1948, the then-homespun parodies gave way to Broadway musicals, including “Guys and Dolls,” this year’s show, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 and 3 and 2 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Batavia High School auditorium. Tickets are $10.
The club may drop future shows because of rising costs for the rights, costumes and sets. There also has been a decline in attendance with the rise of year-round local theatrical groups.
This fourth staging of “Guys and Dolls” has a cast of 40, including a dozen who played the same roles in a 1991 production.
