LOCKPORT – A Lewiston man who was the sole caregiver of his elderly mother admitted in Niagara County Court Friday that he failed to care for her, allowing her to remain in bed in her own feces and urine, causing bedsores and infections.
Harold C. Shaver Jr., 53, of Oneida Street pleaded guilty before Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas to second-degree endangering the welfare of a vulnerable and elderly person. Shaver could receive up to four years in prison when sentenced Jan. 11.
Shaver told the court he had lived off his mother, without a job, over the past 21 years. He blamed his mother for her problems, telling the judge she did not want help and refused to go to the hospital.
“What kind of a man does that to his mother?” Farkas said.
