A 27-year-old motorist who was seen speeding in a Cheektowaga neighborhood was charged with driving while intoxicated, the Erie County Sheriff's Office reported.

Nicholas J. Desantis of Cheektowaga was pulled over by Deputy Simon Biegasiewicz at about 10 p.m. Tuesday after he was seen speeding in the area of French and Borden roads, deputies reported.

After failing field sobriety tests, Desantis was taken into custody, deputies said. He was taken to the Elma substation, deputies said, where a breath test determined that his blood-alcohol content was .18 - the legal threshhold for a charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Desantis was released on an appearance ticket.
