Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has ended in New York, following eight days of designers' runway shows unveiling collections for next spring - yes, already! Among the many looks to appear: New takes on nautical (Tommy Hilfiger showed rope-print blazers and pants); lots of bra-style tops (including some from Buffalo native Mara Hoffman) and standout spring coats (DKNY's taxicab-yellow windbreaker comes to mind).

Fashion tip

Patterned or embellished "smoking slippers" are a popular shoe style for women this fall. But, writes Real Simple magazine, "they look coolest if they don't match your outfit exactly."

And finally ...

"When I can wear the same thing as the girls on the runway, I've done my job."
