A 69-year-old Buffalo woman was struck by a car being driven by a Cheektowaga police officer as she crossed French Road at the intersection with Borden Road about 11:48 a.m. today, Cheektowaga Police Capt. James Speyer told The Buffalo News.
The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center with a broken leg and other injuries, none of which is believed to be life-threatening, Speyer said.
The driver, who was not identified, was described by Speyer as a veteran patrol supervisor who was on routine patrol and making a left hand turn onto French Road when he struck the victim. The officer was not responding to a service call at the time.
Cheektowaga Police investigators called for and received assistance from the Erie County Sheriff's Office and the Erie County District Attorney's Office in an effort to ensure transparency in the investigation, Speyer said.
"Our first concern is the well-being and speedy recovery of the victim. We are very thankful that she will be OK," Speyer said.
