Who?: Jim Crean, vocals; Phil Naro, background vocals/guitar; Steve Major, guitar; Glenn Nash, drums; Stan Miczek, bass.
What?: Classic late-'70s/ early '80s hard rock and metal. A new disc, "Velvet Crush," is out now.
Why?: Crean, a veteran of the Buffalo music scene with several decades of regional and road work to his credit, is the genuine article, an old-school metal/hard rock frontman from the Steven Tyler/Michael Monroe tradition. For "Velvet Crush," he's teamed with Naro, his old friend from Talas, for an uber-solid collection of co-writes. Fans of the lineup of Talas featuring Naro, guitarist Mitch Perry and founder Billy Sheehan will find plenty to love here.
What's next?: Crean and band play at 9 tonight in the Dog Pound (2339 Union Road, West Seneca).
