Freed Maxick CPAs of Buffalo tax manager Michael Biondo was named July’s “Accountant of the Month” by Accounting Today. The Accountant of the Month contest challenges its readership to break the stereotype that accountants are boring. Biondo’s winning entry detailed his 22-year experience as a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism, where he researches and recreates the arts, skills and traditions of pre-17th century Europe and participates in full-contact armored combat.
The Erie County Local Emergency Planning Committee elected Nicole Gerber chairwoman. Gerber is the emergency and biosafety manager of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The LEPC is responsible for developing, testing/exercising and revising the county’s plan for dealing with hazardous materials.

Citizens Bank donated 400 new backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary school children participating in Buffalo Police Athletic League programs through its Gear for Grades initiative.
