Musicians from 51 school districts from Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Allegany counties will take part in the New York State School Music Association's Junior High Area All-State Music Festival Friday and Saturday in Akron Central School's new fine arts wing, 47 Bloomingdale Ave., Akron. Concerts will be held at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.

Park School eighth-grader Nick Rey of Clarence has been selected as second chair in the first violin section of the Zone 1 Junior High Area All-State String Orchestra. Freshman Robert Parke was awarded second chair in the tenor saxophone section of the Zone 1 Junior High Area All-State Concert Band.

The Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center in Hamburg will extend its hours for fossil collecting. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Victoria is in her final year of study with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She recently was awarded the New York State Music Teachers National Association Composer's Award and the Western New York Piano Teachers Forum Summer Study Scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston.
