Nickel City Chef events are organized in a format any "Iron Chef" fan would recognize. A theme ingredient is unveiled, and spectators watch as two cooks on each side work furiously to develop three or more dishes exploiting the ingredient. One is a "Nickel City Chef," representing the home team.
While the cooks work, a mobile camera offers live glimpses of their techniques. A host and a color commentator offer background information and speculation, while about 200 spectators graze on an array of appetizers from Sample or SeaBar. (Cash bar.)
Three judges taste the dishes, offering reactions and insights into the crowd while close-ups of the dishes are displayed on the widescreen televisions. The judges' scores determine the winner.
