Restoring the Buffalo River

Buy News photos |

Dredging and other restoration work on the Buffalo River continue at the foot of Katherine Street in Buffalo. So far, more than 5,000 cubic yards of metal and wooden debris have been pulled from the river, including shopping carts, tires, even a car or two, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Work is expected to wrap up this fall. The dredged material is being transported by barge to Confined Disposal Facility #4 along Lake Erie near the former Bethlehem Steel Site on the Buffalo/Lackawanna border.
