Pre-K students have fun at a Lego station in Michelle White’s class at Sidway Elementary School on Grand Island Tuesday. Denise Dunbar, the school’s principal, said her district is “very supportive” of more funding for universal prekindergarten. Sidway Elementary currently offers two sessions of half-day prekindergarten with one teacher in one classroom. There are 18 4-year-olds enrolled in each session, and Dunbar says more funding would help her school serve more than those 36 students.
