Early December 2010 storm

Buy News photos |

The lake-effect snowstorm that dropped almost 3 feet of snow on parts of Buffalo and the Southtowns on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, struck hard and fast, clogging up streets and highways and causing hundreds of motorists to be stranded for more than 17 hours. The storm closed dozens of schools, but downtown Buffalo was mainly spared. Here, lines of trucks and vehicles are seen trapped on the New York State Thruway in West Seneca on Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 2010.
