A motorcycle accident in Cattaraugus County on Sunday night has claimed the life of a 43-year-old woman and critically injured a 49-year-old man, state police at Machias reported.

Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle in the accident, reported at about 7 p.m. Sunday on McKinstry Road in the Town of Machias.

While heading south, the operator failed to negotiate a curve, leading the motorcycle off the road into loose gravel, Trooper William Garland stated. As the vehicle re-entered the southbound lane, the driver lost control, and both people were ejected.

Mercy Flight took the badly injured man to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Authorities have not released the two people’s names or determined for sure who was the operator. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
