Two Orchard Park men were separately arrested for driving while intoxicated on Sunday, Orchard Park police reported, including a man who hit and dragged a fire hydrant with his car, leaving a water trail for police to follow.
At 2:16 a.m., police pulled over Jason Winter, 38, for driving left of center on Emerson Drive near Taylor Road, officials said. He was charged with aggravated DWI after his blood-alcohol content was found to be .21, authorities said.
At 9:22 p.m., police received reports of a vehicle striking a fire hydrant on Clark Street and driving away with the hydrant dragging behind it, officials reported. Witnesses said the driver, 70-year-old Paul J. Becker, allegedly got out of the car, looked at the hydrant, got back in his car and drove away, according to police.
Officers followed a fluid trail to Becker’s residence, where they found that both airbags had deployed in his vehicle. The vehicle suffered extensive damage, authorities said. Becker blew a .10 and was also charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, according to police.
