Demeaning name should be replaced
As a graduate of West Seneca West Senior High School (Go Indians!) and a descendant of a White Mountain Apache, I am not the least bit insulted that our U.S. government decided to use names such as Apache or Comanche for weapons, planes, etc. It makes me believe that somewhere along the lines someone with a little bit of pull said, “Maybe we were wrong in what we did and should name something strong and important after them.”
What should be replaced is the slang term that was given to my ancestors, “Redskins.” It is as cruel and demeaning as the term given to African-Americans 200 years ago and turned vulgar these days.
