Last summer, a group of amateur and professional chalk artists descended on the 500 block of Main Street to participate in the first-ever Buffalo Chalk Fest. It was a convivial affair, with artists young and old creating everything from simple hopscotch squares to three-dimensional tributes to Buffalo sports teams.

The festival will have its second go this weekend, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday near Main Street Studios (515 Main St.). It will include an array of events, including kid-friendly activities like mat-making, chalk-making and guided tours of a series of “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired chalk illustrations. The festival will also feature several live music and dance performances, including the Differential Flava Crew, Diamond Ricelli, Dan and Leanne and Olivia Frances.

Adult artists can register online at or in person at the festival starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
