Homosexuality decided by nature, not by choice
With all due respect to the priest who, in his recent letter was obediently reciting the misguided and scientifically unsupportable official hard line of the Catholic hierarchy against same-sex marriage, the fact is that homosexuals are such by nature, not by choice.
It has been estimated that as many as 5 percent of the world’s population are homosexuals. That would put their number at more than 300 million of God’s children. Does the good father really believe that God expects these people to be celibate and to forgo the support, comfort and pleasures of a committed monogamous relationship?
There is a song titled, “God made me and God don’t make no junk.” Tolerating the sinner is hardly a loving Christian act. Is it any wonder that so many homosexuals resort to suicide in the absence of the respect and love for which they yearn and to which they are entitled as fellow humans?
As to the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, which has the Catholic hierarchy up in arms, heterosexual marriage was in trouble long before homosexuals began coming out of the closet en masse. Let’s not blame the homosexuals for the failure of so many traditional marriages. In fact, the many lifelong, de facto gay marriages should serve as an example for their heterosexual sisters and brothers.
