The state Department of Environmental Conservation is looking for spotters to help in its surveys of two popular game birds – wild turkeys and ring-necked pheasants.

For the Summer Wild Turkey Sighting Survey in August, participants will record and report descriptions of flocks of wild turkeys that they see during normal travel.

The pheasant survey will be taken in August in the newly established Pheasant Habitat Focus Area in the Genesee Valley, which includes parts of Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming counties.

The survey will help the DEC evaluate its habitat management efforts there.

Forms with instructions for both surveys can be downloaded from the DEC website at For further information, call (518) 402-8886.
