MAYVILLE – A Mayville man was jailed in the theft of a large coin collection from a Mayville home Dec. 13.
Randall Rothwell Jr., 24, of West Marvin Street, was being being held Monday in the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 property bail. He was arrested at about 10 a.m. Monday in Mayville after a months-long and continuing investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
With sheriff’s investigators continuing to track down other suspects, Rothwell was charged with second-degree burglary in the theft of the coin collection from a Sea Lion Drive home here. With some of the stolen coins recovered, Rothwell is accused of cashing in a large amount of the coins in Jamestown and getting cash for some of the coins at a pawnshop in Chautauqua County.
Other suspects are expected to be arrested, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
