Esmonde is being unfair to Buffalo Mayor Brown
The column by Donn Esmonde criticizing Mayor Byron W. Brown was quite nasty and insulting. It was completely unfair.
Buffalo is part of and not a ward of the state. Aid and subsidies from the state are common everywhere from cities, schools, public transportation, just to name a few. Brown is not responsible for everything.
The schools are basically independent. He inherited many problems. These problems exist in other post-industrial cities. Did Brown close down all the steel plants? Is Detroit or Youngstown any better off than Buffalo?
I have lived in this area for 75 years and I have seen more progress than I have seen in years, under this mayor. In my opinion, Brown has been one of our best mayors.
