LOCKPORT – A landscape designer for Stedman Nursery, who presented a proposed design for Lockport’s Fallen Heroes Memorial, told the Common Council on Wednesday that the city’s goal of having the memorial done this year may not be achievable.

“I think it might be a little ambitious to get something done by the fall,” John Freischlag told the aldermen. That was because of the need for concrete work around a non-functioning fountain in Outwater Park, which is to be repaired and become the center of the memorial.

City officials have yet to concur on a design, but the general thrust seems to be a walkway from the south to the fountain, which may or may not have water. Circular plantings around the fountain and a configuration of flags are a possibility.
