Sister Mary Edwinette Gorski, a teacher and a Felician sister for 77 years, died Tuesday in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo. She was 95.
A full-time elementary school teacher for 60 years in the dioceses of Buffalo, Syracuse and Erie, Pa., she also served as principal at St. Hyacinth School in Lackawanna and assistant principal at St. Andrew School in Sloan and Our Lady of Czestochowa School in Cheektowaga. She also taught computer education and served as a tutor in several Catholic elementary schools. At many parishes, she also instructed religious education classes.
Born Emily Gorski in Buffalo, she entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters on July 6, 1936, and professed her vows Aug. 12, 1944. After graduating from Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy in Buffalo, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now Medaille College. She received her master’s degree in education from the University of Buffalo.
She moved to the Provincial House of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province in Buffalo in 1998 and assisted the sisters in many ways. She became a patient in Blessed Mary Angela Care Center in November 2006.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Drabik and Ann Lehman; and a brother, Anthony.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel, 600 Doat St.
