CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — Transit officials say a person on the tracks was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train.
The MTA says the victim was struck at the Pond Road crossing in Central Islip at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The train was due in Ronkonkoma at 10:37 but was running a few minutes behind schedule.
MTA spokeswoman Marjorie told Newsday (http://bit.ly/163zmtl ) that the victim was believed to be a "trespasser."
LIRR service was suspended on the Ronkonkoma branch between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma.
Normal service was expected for Wednesday's morning commute.
