BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The U.S. Coast Guard's Buffalo sector is advising recreational boaters to be aware of construction activity on the city's Niagara River waterfront.

Coast Guard officials say the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation on the Bird Island pier structure across from the Colonel Ward pump station on the Black Rock Canal, located near where Lake Erie empties into the Niagara River.

Boaters are being advised to be on the lookout for construction barges crossing the canal between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. starting Tuesday through July 31. Boaters are being asked to reduce speed when in the vicinity of work crews and equipment.
