MASTIC, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island man has been charged with drunken driving in a crash that killed his grandfather and injured him and two of his passengers.
Suffolk County police say Gary Henricks of Mastic was driving on Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue when he struck the rear of a pickup truck Monday evening.
Authorities say Henricks' vehicle overturned several times and landed upright on the right shoulder.
His 77-year-old grandfather, Isaac Beal, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, Donald Fowler, was listed in critical condition. A third passenger suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup and his passenger were not injured.
Henricks was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
