EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Firefighters are battling a stubborn blaze at a Syracuse-area recycling business that authorities say could burn for days.
Fire officials in the village of East Syracuse tell local media outlets that the fire was reported around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday at Syracuse Recycling and Recovery. Officials say most of the property's five interconnected buildings were engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived at the scene and have been destroyed.
Authorities say plastics, papers and metals inside the building fueled the blaze.
Firefighters plan to use heavy equipment to take down walls and gain access to still-smoldering areas.
Officials say crews will work the scene in shift rotations that could last several days.
