GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. (AP) — A beagle named Apollo nearly made it to the top of a 250-foot cliff over a Mohawk Valley creek before firefighters had to rescue him.
Owner Eugene Tucker tells Utica's WKTV-TV (http://bit.ly/14CPrYi ) that he went searching for Apollo on Sunday when the dog disappeared earlier that morning. Tucker says he finally found Apollo around 3 p.m. when he heard the dog whimpering from a crevice near the top of a 250-foot cliff over a creek in the Herkimer County town of German Flatts.
Local volunteer fire firefighters were called and one of the firefighters repelled from the top of the cliff to reach Apollo. He put the dog in a bag and carried him to the bottom.
Tucker says Apollo was exhausted from his ordeal but otherwise is fine.
