The 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting another teen July 7, was arraigned in Erie County Court Monday afternoon.

Myles D. Taylor III pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm. Attorneys have until Sept. 10 to file motions, and the trial is set to begin Nov. 18 before Judge Michael L. D’Amico.

Taylor, who police say shot 16-year-old Kelmyne Jones Jr. during a fight on Northland Avenue, is currently being held without bail and was charged as an adult. His attorney, John Malloy, said he would file a motion for Taylor to be tried as a youthful offender.

Malloy said his client isn’t doing well.

“He’s mystified, confused,” Malloy said. “He’s 14.”

Police said Taylor retrieved a handgun from beneath some bushes as Jones had another boy in a headlock.

Taylor also was suspected of bringing a handgun onto a school bus in April, Buffalo Public Schools administrators have said. He was suspended for five days from Waterfront Elementary School in connection with the allegations.
