REET PETITE – Jamestown has not one, but two young beauties heading off to the USA Petite Pageant on Aug. 18 in Kissimmee, Fla., and the public will have a chance to meet them at autograph and photo sessions tonight and next Tuesday that also will serve as fundraisers to help cover their travel expenses.

Yara Olma, a 4-foot-10 senior at Jamestown High School, is Teen New York Petite and will compete against girls ages 15 to 17. Sasha Kurashige, a 5-foot-4 Fredonia State College student who graduated from Southwestern High School in 2010, is Miss New York Petite and will vie for the crown against young women ages 18 to 24.

They will appear from 5 to 7 p.m. today and at the same time next Tuesday at Brigiotta’s, 414 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown. In addition, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. next Tuesday, they will be at Friendly’s, 10 S. Main St., Jamestown, where the restaurant will donate 15 percent of proceeds from customers’ checks to them.

GREATNESS ON TAP – Former Buffalo Bills standouts Al Bemiller and Steve Christie will be on hand to congratulate the finishers and hand out beers after the 13th annual St. John Vianney 5K Kickoff Run on Thursday evening in Orchard Park. They’ll be serving as celebrity bartenders at the post-race party.

The run, which marks the start of the parish’s annual lawn fete, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 2950 Southwestern Blvd. at Michael Road. Runners should plan on arriving at least 15 minutes early.

Cash prizes total $1,300. The first 550 entrants get T-shirts. Adult registration is $18 advance, $23 on race day. For kids 14 and under, it’s $13 advance and $15 on the day of the race.

The race also will serve as a South Buffalo Athletic Club reunion race. All past members of the club will get a discounted entry fee if they register online at www.kickoffrun.com. For info, call race director Elizabeth O’Shei at 570-9799.

HOT WHEELS – The Orchard Park Lions Club will hold its 19th annual Quaker Days Car and Motorcycle Show and Cruise from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday on North Buffalo Street in the center of the village. Vehicles will gather in the Orchard Park High School parking lot on Baker Road and cruise in a procession to North Buffalo Street at 11.

There will be 23 car and motorcycle classes, three of them for Corvettes, and 106 awards will be presented. Car entries are $15 advance, $17 day of show.

Proceeds will support the Lions Club Blind and Charity Fund. For info and registration, call Tony Zappia at 662-1806 evenings.

There also will be live music by Joe and the Schmoes, food and many Quaker Days events, including a street dance featuring the Boys of Summer from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Orchard Park Library.

RAISING GLASSES – The Ladies of the Vine wine club, which gathers monthly for fine food and vintages, will hold their fourth annual Buffalo Wine Cruise on Aug. 13 aboard the Spirit of Buffalo, which will embark from Erie Canal Harbor at 6 p.m.
