The Western New York Flash knocked off league leader Sky Blue FC, 3-0, on Sunday before 4,664 at Sahlen’s Stadium. Sky Blue fell to 9-4-4 in the National Women’s Soccer League. With the three points the Flash (7-4-6) remain in fourth place, two points behind FC Kansas City.
The Flash got on the board 13 minutes in the game when Carli Lloyd connected on an assist from Abby Wambach. Brittany Taylor gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead when she scored her third goal of the season at the 22-minute mark.
The only goal of the second half was scored by Samantha Kerr. Wambach, who leads the league in goals with 10, picked up her second assist. Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch made six stops, helping the Flash earn their fifth shutout of the season.
The Flash’s next home game is July 31 against the Washington Spirit.
