NEW YORK (AP) Police say a woman has been shot at a New York City public housing complex where five mayoral candidates recently spent a night to spotlight problems.

The 23-year-old woman was hospitalized in stable condition after the gunfire early Tuesday at the Lincoln Houses complex in Harlem.

Police say she apparently quarreled with another woman before the shooting. They're searching for a suspect.

Democratic candidates Bill de Blasio (BLAH'-zee-oh), John Liu (LOO), Christine Quinn, Bill Thompson and Anthony Weiner stayed with different families in the complex Saturday night. They were there to examine mold, holes in walls and other issues.

Thompson, Liu and de Blasio said Tuesday that the violence emphasizes the need to improve public housing conditions.

Quinn and Weiner didn't immediately comment.
