Rose Marie DeMaria, a lifelong resident of Brant who served as town clerk for 28 years, died Tuesday in Buffalo General Medical Center. She was 78.
Born Rose Marie Catalano, she was a graduate of Angola High School.
She served as town clerk from January 1972 to December 1999 and recently was inducted into the Town of Brant Wall of Fame for her years of service, leadership and dedication to town residents.
This year, June 21, 22 and 23 were designated “Rose Marie DeMaria Days” by the Town Board, which presented her a plaque and Wall of Fame recognition during the 10th annual Summerfest and Strawberry Jam.
A member of the Erie County Town Clerks Association, Mrs. DeMaria was recognized in 1999 as Erie County Clerk of the Year.
She also was a member of the Brant Volunteer Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary, Brant Senior Citizens, the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Brant-Farnham Democratic Club.
Her husband, John A. “Jack,” died in April.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristine Thomann, and a son, Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Commercial St., Farnham.
