More explicit signs might help save lives

It was saddening to read in the July 6 News (“Tempting and treacherous”) that two young people drowned in the Union Ship Canal. Perhaps the “Danger: No Swimming” signs are too vanilla. People are used to seeing these signs in water areas that do not have lifeguards. Maybe we should have more explicit signs like “No Swimming: Several feet of mud at the bottom of the water may lead to swimmers getting trapped and drowning.” Higher-quality, specific warnings may save some lives.
