Fight against corruption needs to start with Silver
What’s wrong with this picture?
A nun is sentenced to 90 days in jail, five years of probation, 100 hours of community service and must pay back the full amount of the stolen money – $128,000.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver took $103,000 of taxpayer money to pay off women whom a legislator harassed, and nothing is done about it. Here is a man who reportedly earned between $350,000 and $450,000 last year. Yet he hasn’t said a word about putting the $103,000 back.
Now, for another slap in the face to taxpayers, it’s reported that Silver will hire a law firm to represent him using, you guessed it, taxpayer money. Where is the justice and fairness here?
Gov. Andrew Cuomo keeps talking about ending corruption in Albany. Well, governor, here’s your big chance.
