FC Buffalo saw its playoff run end on the same night it began.

The soccer team suffered a 5-2 loss to the Erie Admirals in the opening round of the playoffs in the Great Lakes Division of the Midwest Conference. The National Premier Soccer League game was played at Cass Technical High School in Detroit.

Shane Howard led the way for Erie. He scored the game’s first goal in the 16th minute, and added another score in the 41st minute.

Buffalo came back in the second half, as midfielder Ian Mort scored on a rebound in the 58th minute. But Erie put the game away with goals by Daniel Deakin (69th minute), Billy Colton (74th) and Carl Jones (83rd). Mort added his second goal in the 90th minute.

Erie advanced to the division final against Detroit City FC. The top seed defeated AFC Cleveland, 3-1, earlier on Sunday. The title game will be played today in Detroit. Buffalo finished the season with an overall record of 8-5.
