BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York postal carrier has admitted to stealing $400,000 from an elderly reverend he befriended on his route.
Erie County prosecutors say 63-year-old Peter Saraceno of West Seneca pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Erie County Court Friday.
Investigators say the victim was a 78-year-old reverend and military veteran and that Saraceno became a joint account holder on his bank account. Authorities say Saraceno wrote checks to himself and made ATM withdrawals from 2006 to this year to support a casino gambling habit while the victim who uses a wheelchair and is in a nursing home.
Investigators say Saraceno blamed stress and depression.
He faces up to 15 years in prison when he's sentenced in September.
