Bishop right to lament ruling on gay marriage

I feel compelled to respond to the letter stating that Bishop Richard Malone’s statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act is offensive to many.

Malone was right on target. His views are not intolerant, exclusive or discriminatory. The bishop is merely espousing Catholic Church teaching. The writer states that the bishop is not representing the views of him or his wife. For those of us who are Catholic and who joyfully follow and embrace our church, we appreciate Malone proclaiming the truth and not bowing to “secular pressure.”

The writer states that the number one cause of death among gay and lesbian youth is suicide. I believe this is due to the fact that even though society tells these misguided youths the lie that living a homosexual lifestyle is OK, they will never be truly happy living that way. I believe homosexuality is a disorder. People are wired to know right from wrong, order from disorder – and encouraging them to engage in a disorder causes people anguish. One of my family members is a counselor and deals with homosexual people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol and very depressed. We need to help homosexuals to deal with this disorder.

I have friends who are gay/lesbian and I pray that they can turn from the homosexual lifestyle and find the peace they desperately seek.
