SILVER CREEK – The summer days at Silver Creek Central School are filled with activity, including construction inside and out, and summer school classes.
School Board members learned at their meeting Wednesday that construction projects are on schedule. The most visible is the addition of a 50-space parking lot near Dickinson Street and Bennett State Road. Inside the school building, a window replacement project and other interior improvements are progressing as part of the multiyear capital improvement project.
There are 90 students enrolled in the elementary summer school classes, board members were told.
In other business, Martha Howard was re-elected unanimously as president of the board. Greg Cole was elected vice president. Board members approved several routine items for their annual reorganization agenda.
It was announced that a new contract was approved with transportation supervisor Kari Turner. Turner will also supervise transportation at Forestville School. Her pay will be divided, with 75 percent of the share paid by Silver Creek. She will be considered a full-time employee of the Silver Creek District.
Board members also approved extending the contract with Personal Touch for cafeteria service. Meal prices will remain unchanged from the last school year, with students charged $1.25 and adults $4 for a lunch in the cafeteria.
The members agreed to the transfer of $850,000 to the capital reserve fund for transportation. The fund and the amount were approved by voters on the May ballot. The reserve fund is used to help pay for the purchase of school buses and other school vehicles without raising additional taxes.
Andrea Turton, of Olean, was hired as the school nurse effective July 1.
