Fresh from dates on the Unity Tour – a road jaunt that found him sharing the bill with reggae-jam outfit 311 and the inimitable gritty hip-hop of Cypress Hill – G. Love reconvenes his Special Sauce and heads for the Canalside stage at 5 tonight. One might reasonably expect the fully tenured funk-blues-soul-jam guitarist/vocalist to be suitably fired up to be in the headlining slot once again, so tonight’s show should be a strong one.

Buffalo audiences are no stranger to G. Love and his band. They’ve been a favorite on our summer concert scene for the better part of a decade, and each time the band has played here, the results have been the same. The musicians conjure a commanding groove, the women sway and the guys wish it was them up there on the stage, offering the connective tissue between Bob Dylan, John Hammond Jr. and Soul Coughing.

For tonight’s free show, G. Love & Special Sauce will be joined by the Arkells – the opener on that already legendary Tragically Hip show at Canalside – and the Drowning Men.
