For Buffalo-based artist and designer Terry Todoroff, a trip to the movies may carry him far beyond his neighborhood movie theater. As an international traveler afflicted with apparently endless wanderlust, Todoroff has spent years visiting distant locations he’s seen in films – from Transylvania to Tanzania – and documenting those trips in photographs.
In “Travel Inspired by the Movies,” opening Friday in the small Queen City Gallery in the Market Arcade (617 Main St.), the results of Todoroff’s many adventures will be on display. The show features photographs from his travels juxtaposed with fake movie posters of Todoroff’s design and affords visitors a chance to live vicariously through the artist’s wide-ranging travels.
“Terry is able to share his world adventures with diverse audiences who may have the interest in, but perhaps not the means to conduct, such modern day cultural expeditions,” a release reads. “He hopes to bring a unique chance for viewers to explore beyond their cultures a multitude of adventurous, environmental, and social issues through the eyes of an extraordinary traveler.”
The exhibition opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday and runs through Aug. 9. Call 868-8183 or visit queencitygallery.tripod.com.
