Jason McNeil, 43, was punched in the head while walking in the parking lot following Friday’s performance by Kid Rock. When he fell, the back of his head hit the ground, a cousin told the Tuscaloosa News. McNeil now lives in Tuscaloosa, Ala.,

Genesee County sheriff’s deputies charged Craig Lawson, 34, of Ontario, Canada, with a misdemeanor count of assault. Lawson was released after posting $1,000 bail.
A 1988 graduate of Alden High School, McNeil has lived in Alabama for more than 20 years. Married with two daughters, he’s the co-owner and operator of Synchronous Industrial Services, an automotive supplier, and active in community affairs.
McNeil has had emergency surgery to remove blood clots and alleviate pressure on his brain, according to a Facebook page established to update people about his condition.
Fundraising campaigns are under way in Alabama and on GiveForward.com, where the Jason McNeil Fund is accepting donations to support the family.
