A Buffalo man was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to five years in prison and ordered deported to the Dominican Republic after his sentence is complete.

Elvis Espinosa, 46, who was arrested with eight others in August 2009, had previously been convicted of conspiracy to distribute heroin. The eight other defendants also pleaded guilty.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Clare Kane said Espinosa was arrested in connection with his involvement in obtaining heroin from suppliers in New York City for distribution in Buffalo.

His sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and New York State Police.
