ORISKANY, N.Y. (AP) — Officials are investigating the suicide of 19-year-old jail central New York inmate who hanged himself with a bed sheet.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office tells the Utica Observer-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/172FKzZ ) that Dylan Burke of West Leyden had initially been on suicide watch when he was locked up early last week, but then was placed under monitoring every 10 minutes in a cell after an interview with mental health staff.
He was resuscitated by county jail staff who found him hanging on July 3, but he died the next day at a hospital.
Undersheriff Robert Swenszkowski says Tuesday there are no signs Burke's death was anything but a suicide, but state Commission of Corrections will investigate.
Burke had been arrested on warrants involving a minor drug possession charge and falsifying business records.
