LEWISTON – The drivers of a payloader and a car were both injured in an accident just before 1 p.m. today at the intersection of Walmore Road and Saunders Settlement Road/Route 31.
The was closed to traffic in both directions between Walmore and Tuscarora Roads, according to Niagara County sheriff and fire dispatchers.
Rescuers at the scene described the driver of the car as elderly. One rescuer said the male driver was conscious, but suffered cuts on his arms and legs. The injured man also complained of pain under his shoulder and said he recently had a pacemaker put in, according to rescuers.
Both the driver of the car and the driver of the payloader were taken from the scene by ambulance. The extent of injuries and names of the drivers have not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and Saunders Settlement Road will remain closed until the investigation is concluded, according to traffic alerts.
Volunteer firefighters from Lewiston 1 and 2, Upper Mountain Road and Sanborn fire departments were called to the scene.
