PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (AP) — A bear that's been on the lam around the city of Peekskill has apparently decided it prefers the bucolic woods.
Just in case, police urged residents on Tuesday to keep their garbage covered and their pet food indoors.
The Journal News (http://lohud.us/15b9lFW ) says police chased the young black bear through downtown Peekskill on Monday night.
Patrick Somma saw the furry creature running through his yard at lunchtime on Tuesday. He took a picture of the bear galloping across the street, near a stop sign and an SUV.
Right after that, the city announced that the bear had gone back into the woods.
It may — or may not — be the same bear reported roaming through Ossining and Briarcliff Manor around July 1.
