NIAGARA FALLS – New York State Parks Police were searching the Niagara River late Saturday for two people who had reportedly fallen into the water during two separate incidents.
The first happened at about 6 p.m. when a 22-year-old man from Amherst was hiking with friends at Whirlpool State Park, when he went off the trail and slipped into the rapids, a Parks Police official said Saturday.
Police initiated an extensive search of the area, which concluded at night fall because of the lack of visibility. Police are expected to resume the search this morning.
Parks Police, however, were called out again at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday for the report of a female who went over Niagara Falls at Prospect Point, the official said.
No other details were available late Saturday night.
