A woman and a police officer were injured about 4 p.m. Saturday after a two-vehicle crash involving a Town of Tonawanda police cruiser at Sheridan Drive and Military Road.

The officer was responding to a call of a crime in progress at the time, and the cruiser’s lights and sirens were activated, according to a department news release.

The officer suffered minor scrapes and was treated at the scene by paramedics before returning to duty. The woman was freed from the wreckage of her vehicle by members of the Sheridan Park Fire Company and taken to Erie County Medical Center. A condition was unavailable but police said her injuries initially appeared to be minor.
