The University at Buffalo named Lee H. Melvin vice provost for enrollment, a new position. Melvin was associate vice provost for enrollment at Cornell University. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas, and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
Brisbane Consulting Group named Karen S. Piershalski a senior analyst on its business valuation team. Piershalski is an accredited senior appraiser with a designation in business valuation from the American Society of Appraisers and has more than 10 years’ experience performing business valuations and related services. Piershalski is a University at Buffalo graduate.
TVGA Consultants, an engineering, environmental, land survey and architecture firm, named Philip H. Crowell an architectural technician. Crowell graduated from Alfred State. Also, the firm named James Messana an engineer I. Messana is a recent graduate of Clarkson University’s civil engineering program.
The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy appointed Monique Watts director of institutional advancement. Most recently, Watts served as director of development at the Elmwood Franklin School after serving as director of special events at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas. Watts is a founding member of Urban Roots Community Garden Center.
Watts Architecture & Engineering named Abel Plazola an electrical engineer in the firm’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering department, and Patrick Colern a project monitor/air sampling technician in its environmental department. Plazola holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical/mechanical engineering from ITT in Mexico.
W. J. Cox Associates, an insurance and risk management firm specializing in the forest products industry, promoted Susan Kane to vice president of underwriting at its main office in Clarence. Kane was assistant vice president of underwriting at the company. She is an Edinboro University graduate.

Syracuse Securities named Theresa Lundquist a senior mortgage loan officer. Lundquist has 12 years of mortgage experience with a national home builder and bank. She hold a NYS Mortgage Loan Originator License and earned a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College.

Hodgson Russ named Nathaniel W. Lucek an associate in the law firm’s intellectual property & technology practice group, Buffalo office. Previously Lucek spent more than five years as in-house intellectual property counsel at Applied Materials, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer in Massachusetts. A Clarkson University graduate, he received his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center (now University of New Hampshire School of Law).
